Information-based Optimization of Jatropha Biomass Energy Production in the Frost- and Drought-prone Regions Of Botswana
Crops in gradually due to dryness and cold-weather, and this is a barrier to the achievement of a low carbon society based upon bioenergy. However, the country has an abundance of wild plants that can hold up against dryness and winter cold. It also has big numbers of Jatropha trees, whose seeds have abundant amounts of an oil thought about to hold excellent pledge as a biofuel. The objective of this project is to make use of these resources to establish jatropha curcas varieties that are resistant to dryness and winter and deal high performance, as well as to develop techniques of cultivating these varieties. In this way, a biological method will help to attain a low carbon society.
Creating a bioenergy production design based on the nation’s own biological resources
A database of biological resource data associating with jatropha curcas will be constructed and appropriate ranges will be developed. Moreover, in this desert that goes through cold weather, efforts will be made to develop a cultivation system that is flexible with regard to environment modification. The project will work to develop a sustainable bioenergy production design utilizing plant genetic resources that are native to Botswana.
